Met Gala 2018

The Met gala has become the premier fashion event of the year with many famous people wearing outfits that you just can't take home to mother...or go to work in. This event is to raise money for the Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume  Institute. It is actually a fundraiser where us pleebs would never be invited to since my fashion is from Giant Tiger.

I can't help but see all this grandeur and excess only to think of all the money that went into these gowns could be used to help animals or the starving kids. Anyhoo, here are my picks which i categorize as The Good, The Bad and the WTF?!

This year the theme was Heavenly Bodies: Fashion & the Catholic Imagination.

Marni Says......Dear Birgit, you are HILARIOUS!  I love that you labeled some of these ridiculocities (I don't think that's a word) as outfits 'that you just can't take home to mother'.......I am busting a gut here!  Hahahahaha!

The Good

I wish Rooney would smile, just once but that being said I do love this gown done by Givenchy Haute Couture. I love the fabric and the colour and the clean lines but her wrist is calling out for a bracelet.

Marni Says.....Birgit, I agree.  Smile for goodness sake.  And I do believe that an accessory on her wrist would just kind of finish off the outfit.  The colour is heavenly and the tailoring is immaculate.

I don't know who Emilia Clarke is but she is wearing a Dolce & Gabbana gown which I think it sumptuous  with all the brocade. I even don't mind the oval pictures on it even though they are distracting but they remind me of 2 tea cups I have at home. I think it fits well and the jewelry is great.

Marni Says.....Yes Birgit, I do like this one, but I see what you mean about the 'teacup' sort of designs.  I do agree that something could be used in the fabric to just give it that extra little punch, but 'teacup' designs are not cutting it for me.

I found this gown, designed by Michael Kors, quite understated from the other concoctions but I found it quite pretty with the brocade on red with the small belt and the train behind her. nicely done.
What do you think Marni?

Birgit, I think you are right.  Impeccable tailoring, perfect length with just a hint of toes peeking out.  If it was not for the train though, this would have no place in the Met Gala show.  The train gave it that extra flair to just stand out.  LOVE the colour on her too.

This Louis Vuitton gown, worn by Michelle Williams, is to evoke the knights from the Romantic age. Once again, it is not over the top but has the right amount of shimmer and there is the small belt again the  flows well with the neck outline and the shoulders. Please Michelle...smile

Marni here......Okay, so yes, please smile and stop trying to look so demure all the time.........good lord.  I love how everything comes together based on the skinny belt that matches the sleeves and trim around the neck.

Usually Salma is on my E-Gad list but I really like this Altuzarra gown with the whole imagery of a garden. It fit her well including her bodacious Ta-tas.

OMG.....this is Marni.  Selma always goes all out!  I wish she had straightened her hair because there is so much going on in the 'picture' on this dress that the waves/curls are not really needed.  And her face would have looked a little softer if she had parted her hair a bit to the side.  I do LOVE curly hair, and Birgit and I both have naturally curly hair, but I think either straight or just a slight wave would have worked much better here.

I love the colour and the beautiful brocade headdress Priyanka Chopra is wearing. I think it fits the theme of the Byzantine icons one sees in Russian churches etc.. Ralph Lauren outdid himself.
Do you like this Marni?

Birgit, Priyanka looks amazing in this gown.....the colour, the cut, and the theme.....spot on!  The flow of the fabric is exquisite.

Yes, this dress is cut up to her youwho  but look at the workmanship and the colours! At first I didn't care much for it but the more I looked at it the more I fell in love with this beautiful gown that evokes a peacock or a butterfly. Versache truly made a gown of exquisite fabric.

This girl is beautiful and she knows it.  This fits her in all the right places, but I do agree that the slit could have been a bit more modest, we know what's up there girl and it shouldn't be shown at the Met Gala...........

I love this artistic piece even though I don't think it fits her well but this gown is just amazing with all the icons, gold threads, pearls and other precious stones. I wonder what this dress is worth? This dress really evokes the theme of the night. Moschino outdid themselves when designing this gown.

Birgit, do you think that this dress is wearing HER and not the other way around?  I do love all of the icons, etc. in the fabric, but it's missing something and I can't quite put my finger on it......

OK not to the bad....

I wondered what happened to my 1970s couch. The style is nice and it fits Naomi well but blecchhh too much going on. Michael kors could do better and please, no more gold or yellow on Naomi.

Oh no, no, no........Naomi, we want to see YOU and not something that looks like a mannequin.....the colour and pattern totally wash you out and we can barely see that you are even there.........

Is it just me or does it look like Jennifer Connelly's bust was photoshopped over another gal's body?  What the hell is going on? It is like Louis Vuitton's staff mixed up 2 different gowns just like Rachel mixed up the trifle from friends.." There's a layer of cream, lady fingers, jam, followed by beef, peas and mashed potatoes. it's topped off with fruit and whipped cream."  Ughhh
Any other bad outfits that should be sent to hell that you wish to add Marni?

UM..............Yes.  It totally looks like a photoshop project gone wrong........Oh boy......

Now for the WTF?!

What an idiot! We can always count on Sarah Jessica Parker to wear something outlandishly stupid. This is by Dolce and Gabbana and it is loud, tacky and those stupid hearts look like bull's eyes. That headdress is crooked with the top part looking like a grade 5 class glued it with Elmer's glue and then Sarah took the glue away from them and sniffed it. I want a peashooter to try and knock that thing off her head.

I agree Birgit.  And the headdress looks like a craft project I did in Sunday school, minus the macaroni but including every other thing in the church basement craft closet..............I get a headache just looking at that sitting on her head.......ADVIL please!!!!!

I didn't know the pope became a slut. There must be so many gems and pearls on this outfit of shame created by Marson Margela (I think I have the name right) that it would be better used to sell it and donate it to an animal shelter. Apparently it is a real cardinal's hat and all the lemmings are out praising this piece of crap but not me.

Um.........I have NO words.................

I...I...just don't have the words but the oil creep from Star Trek: The Next Generation is about to swallow her up. Where is a pin when you need one. I would love to pop those sides anD see it deflate.

Okay, so what woman wants to look like a Slip and Slide at the Met Gala?  And what woman wants all of that bulk added to her hips?  I have enough of my own hips thank you.

So Katy missed the Macy's Thanksgiving parade float and wondered onto this  gala. The go go boots and outfit  scream,  "Help I need therapy!". She almost knocked out her stylist while walking the red carpet. Versace should hold their head in shame but, then again, look at Donatella's face.

Katy......just fly away, please.

2 last looks that I think are cool

Yes, this is over the top and I would never be caught dead in this but I love how Frances McDormand is having fun with her headdress of  flyaway leaves..or are they birds? Valentino made this  get up and Frances just knows how to have fun and not take things too seriously.

I could not believe that this is Frances McDormand!  In a coloured gown!  And what a colour it is......you go girl!  You got guts and you know it!  LOVE it!

Zendaya is channeling Joan of Arc in this over the top costume but I like it. I think it is cool how she found the right style for the theme without being a WTF? moment. The dress fits her very nicely and I love how it is feminine looking but still brings the armour from the 14th century. She doesn't look too happy but she will be burned at the stake so who can fault her.

I have two words.......please NO.

This is extremely lengthy but I had to gab about these. I am not sure If Marni will add her fav's or horror shows but I hope she does.
